Social Communication skills play a vital role in our ability to form relationships and enable us to function in everyday life. Successful social interaction require a multitude of skills, the will be develop through our Social communication curriculum. This will focus upon needs and wants, listening, conversations, identity.
Social Communication Intent
The intent for our social communication programme is to develop confidence and for our student to effectively communicate (using a variety of methods) in different social situations. Social communication skills play a vital role in our ability to form relationships and enable us to function in everyday life. Successful social interaction requires a multitude of skills that will be developed through our social communication lessons. We have developed a programme that builds on the knowledge and skills of listening and conversation, leading to increased social independence and interactions. The programme is differentiated by ability through learning pathways: the students will encounter bespoke programmes tailored to need their needs allowing for breadth, balance, appropriate progression and continuity.
We aim for all pupils who leave Westcroft being able to communicate effectively at a level appropriate to their ability, in a broad range of social situations.
